Crafting Caterpillars

While I was working on editing ‘The Caterpillar’ week of the May Enrichment Guide, I was inspired to create a caterpillar wall hanging for our playroom. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to end up with but that was the fun of it. I encourage you to take out some art supplies with your children and just create without a plan too.

I have beautiful plant dyed felt that I purchased at a waldorf conference I attended this year and I decided to cut circles out for my little crawler.

I haven’t used my sewing machine is so long. I’m always so busy with my children and the business. I am going to make it a point to take time each week for crafting something just for fun.

My children helped me piece this guy together. We used some green wool roving for ‘grass’ and sewed it on a bit. We stuffed his head with some wool and cut out little eyes.

We even needle felted a little extra wool on his circles to add color and made antennas to match.
I know its always nice to come across a fun tutorial where you have solid directions on what to do and how it will end up…. but sometimes its fun just to take chances. I hope this inspires you to do the same.
