Kaka's Tree is a lyrical, magical children's picture book that invites readers into a world where imagination has no limits, belonging is unconditional, and every child-exactly as they are-is celebrated.

In this whimsical tale, a tree grows not in one place, but in every heart that dreams. Here, a lion writes, a mouse wears a cape, a mermaid glides with a ship, and a dragon blushes in the moonlight. Teacups spin in the air, pickles sing, and flowers glow-each moment more enchanting than the last.

Kaka's Tree is a safe, joyful place where children can be exactly who they are or explore who they might become. It celebrates the beauty of staying true to yourself while embracing the freedom to imagine yourself into anything you want to be.

With its gentle rhyme and magical illustrations, this story also speaks to children who may feel different or live with disabilities-reminding them they are always welcome, always valued. And it encourages all children to celebrate diversity, practice kindness, and see the beauty in others, no matter how different they may be.

Perfect for bedtime or quiet reading moments, Kaka's Tree is more than a story-it's an invitation to play, dream, and grow in a space where every child belongs.

About Kaka

This book was inspired by my godmother and aunt, Kathleen “Kaka” Petrausch. Kaka was a storyteller, a laugher, and a lifelong believer in imagination.

As a teacher in the New York City public school system, she inspired generations of children with her warmth, humor, and unconditional love. She believed imagination could grow anywhere—in a city street, a quiet forest, or in our hearts—and that anyone could become whatever they dreamed of: a wizard, a lion, a dragon, or simply their truest self.

Her original poem, Kaka’s Tree, was playful and personal, written for our family and filled with the joy of watching loved ones grow into who they were meant to be. This reimagined version grows from her roots into the world for every child—especially those who have ever felt a little different, unsure, or just need to know: you are welcome here. You are safe here. You are enough—just as you are, and just as you dream to be.
